Machine guns to Sewing Machines
Hi, I'm Trinidad Garcia III, Designer for Trinidad3. Many ask, how in the hell did I go from being a Machine-gunner to a Fashion Designer??? For many it doesn't make sense. For me, it’s just part of my journey and who I am.
It's been a long road to get to this point...
They say it's about the journey and not the destination. I suppose that's true because I haven't reached a destination yet but what a damn journey it's been! From designing soccer uniforms, to being a screen printer and designing street wear, to a truck driver, and even a big rig repo man, to opening a showroom at the California Market Center. All were merely a hustle to get to the point of selling my own collection.
I've loved fashion since I was a kid. I chased the dream at an early age, and it spit me out several times. Hell, my Dad pulled me out of sewing classes 3 times!!!! Subsequently, it took everything I had, and I found myself with nothing but a mountain bike and the clothes on my back.
At the age of 31, I joined the United States Marine Corps to restart my life. Never did I think that the Marine Corps Infantry would be my direct route to the fashion industry. My MOS was 0331 Machine Gunner, and I was assigned to serve for 2nd Battalion 7th Marines Weapons Company, in beautiful 29 Palms California! Truly an experience that will have an everlasting impact. My pathway back into the fashion world and passion were born again, (though at the time I didn't realize it as when I joined, I wanted nothing to do with fashion). I later accepted orders to serve at a Reserve station in Los Alamitos, which is where I received the chance of a lifetime, to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles! While on active duty, I used the G.I. Bill and have since earned 3 degrees from fashion school. Apparel Industry Management, Advanced Study in Menswear, and was part of the first graduating class in Denim. I guess that's not too bad, for a Grunt!!!
The Trinidad3 Collection is a dream come true that exhibits experience I've been through. Inspired by life punching me in the face. Driven by my mission to Power Veterans.
As you come along this journey with me, I will share more about what I've been through with fashion.
Til next time,
Trinidad Garcia III
